Mini Biography

Freddie Prinze, Jr. was born on March 8, 1976, in Los Angeles, California, and lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in his early life. He attended three different schools during his childhood: Eldorado, Sandia, and La Cueva. After graduating in 1994, Freddie moved to L.A. to focus on an acting career. He immediately garnered featured roles on several episodic series, one of which was an episode of "Family Matters: The Gun (#6.15)" (1995), in which Freddie had a four-line part playing a punk kid who brought a gun to school. "That was my big break, and I thought it was huge," says Freddie. He then went on to appear in a few after-school specials, including "ABC Afterschool Specials: Too Soon for Jeff (#25.1)" (1996) and Detention: The Siege at Johnson High (1997) (TV) co-starring Rick Schroder and Henry Winkler.

Personal Quotes

"Kissing Claire was good. I was really nervous, though. I hadn't kissed many girls in real life." - about his scene with Claire Danes in the film To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday (1996).

It only takes 30 seconds to pluck my eyebrows, but it hurts. I have to tweeze them in the middle once a week. Otherwise, I look like Bert from "Sesame Street" (1969). I've been doing it for 11 years.

[on his career choice] [Acting is] the only thing I'm good at. I know how to create and make people feel something. Honestly, if I didn't do this, I would just have some minimum-wage job in New Mexico, and I would go out on the weekends and make just enough money to pay my insurance and pay for a couple beers, and that would be it.

[on Valentine's Day] I think it's kind of a crock, and here's why: I believe we should be doing that every day [...] make your girl feel special whenever you can. I'm a big big believer in surprises. You've got to be romantic all of the time. Guys, you can hate me or whatever for saying this, but you know what you should do.

(On children) "I will be the best father you've ever seen. I will win father of the year everytime. And Sarah will be the most fantastic mother."

I'm going to stop acting in the next few years because it's just too weird. You have to constantly be willing to live in a scary, emotional place, which is why actors are in therapy all the time.

If people would only think of (my father's) gift (of comedy) instead of his death, I would love it. I have an album of his stand-up, "Lookin' Good", and no matter how upset I was, anytime, ever, the second I played it he could make me laugh. He was so sharp and spontaneous, so fast!

Life is not about making dough or how many movies you can make in a year. It's about finding someone that you can share things with.

I know one day I'm going to be the best father in the world. Me not having a father makes me want to be a great one. I have so much love I wanted to give him, and I'll be damned if I don't give it to a child of mine.

Drugs are the sucker's way, man, and I'm not a sucker. I don't smoke, do blow, or hardly ever drink, but there's still a fear: what if it's genetic? I want to be like Evander Holyfield, who has a work ethic, morals, a real heart, who understands his responsibility to help other people, To me, that's an American hero living an American dream.

When I was in school I read a lot of comic books and pretend I was in them and kids would tease me and call me names. But now I do the same things and people say that I'm artistic and cool and I'm doing the exact same thing I did in high school. It wasn't a very artistic school.

"My favorite role ever was "Anthony Pascal" from The House of Yes (1997). He was like a "Norman Bates" before his mom bought the motel years. You knew he was going to snap and something was just a little bit off".

"The person who most inspires me today would probably be Evander Holyfield. I like the fact that he's very calm and spiritual and knows what he wants. He gives so much back to the community".
