Hilary Duff is a singer-songwriter and an actress born in September 28 of the year 1987. Even as a kid, Duff participated in local plays and commercials, but gained absolute fame when she played the lead role for the TV series entitled: "Lizzie McGuire". She also had her share of acting in several movies, the most successful of which include "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" and "Cheaper by the Dozen". She also launched albums under the genre of pop music which were usually certified platinum: "Metamorphosis" (with lead single So Yesterday), "Hilary Duff", "Most Wanted", and "Dignity". Duff also is an entrepreneur since she has her own clothing line called "Stuff by Hilary Duff".
Hilary was raised in Houston, Texas, born to parents: Susan Duff and Robert Erhard Duff. Hilary's elder sister, Haylie, is like her---both an actress and singer. Both of them took up acting lessons during childhood as encouraged by their mother. Hilary, Haylie, and their mother then decided to move to California to better pursue careers in acting.
Hilary Duff's first big role was in 1998, in the film called "Casper Meets Wendy", where she plays the role of Wendy the Witch. The following year (1999), she gained a supporting role in "The Soul Collector" and was the reason Duff received an award for "Best Performance in a TV Movie or Pilot" a Young Artist Award.
Duff's worldwide fame can be attributed to her TV show: "Lizzie McGuire" which was aired in 2001 on the Disney Channel. After finishing her contract (65 episodes) with Disney, the show also had to end because Hilary and her representatives felt that the payment she was getting was insufficient.
In 2002, Disney launched Hilary's first Disney compilation album "Santa Claus Lane" which contained Christmas tracks and eventually turned gold. Hilary also recorded a number of tracks for The Lizzie McGuire Movie e.g. "Why Not" and "I Can't Wait", with the soundtrack being certified platinum in 2003. Her first studio album "Metamorphosis" was also released in 2003 and became a chart-topper, with one of the singles "Come Clean" gaining a nomination for "Best Pop Video" at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2004.
In 2005, Duff was rumored to have an eating disorder because of having lost a lot of weight. She admitted that she felt pressured to lose weight because of various media reports saying that she was too fat, but denied that she had an eating disorder. The following year, Hilary had to take legal action against Maksim Miakovsky, her alleged stalker who dished out death threats. The next year, Miakovsky was sentenced to jail and probation.
Just last year (November 2008), Hilary's "Best of Hilary Duff" was made available to the public, with the first single "Reach Out" becoming a number one dance hit. In December of 2008, Duff also signed a deal with NBC as she is expected to star in a new TV series. Just last January (2009), an announcement was made that she will be featured in "The Story of Bonnie and Clyde".
